Ab­b­Vie cuts rib­bon on can­cer pa­tient and fam­i­ly re­treat space at St. Jude, fund­ed by $50M pledge

Ab­b­Vie’s lat­est de­vel­op­ment in can­cer isn’t a new drug, but in­stead a place.

The Fam­i­ly Com­mons by Ab­b­Vie was un­veiled on Mon­day, fund­ed by a $50 mil­lion do­na­tion from the phar­ma, as a re­treat for fam­i­lies and pa­tients in­side St. Jude Chil­dren’s Re­search Hos­pi­tal in Mem­phis.

The 45,000 square-foot sec­ond-floor space in­cludes a kinder­garten through 12th grade class­room com­plete with sci­ence lab and a li­brary, an art room, record­ing stu­dio, mul­ti­ple play spaces and pri­vate rooms for fam­i­ly rest be­tween hos­pi­tal ap­point­ments. The fam­i­ly area will of­fi­cial­ly open on Feb. 7.
