Another Moderna expansion is announced, this time at its Massachusetts site

In an effort to keep up with its rapidly accelerating pace of vaccine manufacturing, Moderna will transform one of its Massachusetts sites into an industrial technology center.

Moderna will more than double its lab space from 300,000 square feet to 650,000 square feet, as it acquires a 240,000 square foot building that is located on its Norwood campus already.

The expansion will support a 50% increase in Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, in support of a plan to ramp up production in late 2021 and 2022 to help support vaccination and booster efforts in other countries. The company announced that it was aiming to produce up to 3 billion doses in 2022, and would achieve it through doubling capacity at contract sites in Spain and Switzerland owned by Rovi and Lonza.
