In a nail-biter, Rob Califf gets a second shot at FDA commissioner with Senate confirmation
Famed cardiologist, Duke University clinical trial researcher and former FDA commissioner Rob Califf won Senate confirmation for the second time on Tuesday, after more than a year without an appointed leader at the agency.
This time, after serving as the 22nd FDA commissioner for about a year under President Obama, Califf’s confirmation vote was considerably closer at 50-46, with Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) voting present as Sen. Ben Lujan (D-NM) did not vote due to a stroke.
