
Covid-19 roundup: EU cracks down further on vaccine exports; Pfizer enters race for Covid-19 pill
Europe is locking down its borders again.
Struggling to inoculate its population while the UK and US steamroll ahead, the European Union is finalizing legislation that would give it broad power to prevent vaccines produced in its borders from leaving its borders for six weeks, The New York Times reported.
The crackdown on exports could most severely impact the UK. The former EU member state contracted with AstraZeneca and later Pfizer and BioNTech to buy millions of doses that are produced on the continent — doses they’ve been relying on to now vaccinate 40% of its population. Only about 10% of the EU’s population have received shots.
