While Mod­er­na has said its vac­cine is 94.1% ef­fec­tive at pre­vent­ing symp­to­matic Covid-19, a big ques­tion still re­mains: How long does pro­tec­tion last?

On Thurs­day, NI­AID re­searchers read out in­ter­im Phase I da­ta which show par­tic­i­pants giv­en Mod­er­na’s can­di­date re­tained “high lev­els” of neu­tral­iz­ing an­ti­bod­ies through 90 days af­ter their sec­ond vac­ci­na­tion. While based on on­ly 34 par­tic­i­pants, Mod­er­na CMO Tal Zaks said the da­ta “give us fur­ther op­ti­mism” about the can­di­date’s dura­bil­i­ty.
