Covid-19 roundup: Gavi raises $4.8B in pledged funds; Japan cancels order of 40M remaining AstraZeneca shots
Now roughly two years into the Covax initiative, the global vaccine alliance group Gavi has been trying to raise new money — and now has received pledges of $4.8 billion in funding.
The promised investment was announced on Friday. Gavi said in a statement that $1.7 billion came from new “sovereign donor pledges,” $2.1 billion from financial mechanisms provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the US Development Finance Corporation, and an additional $1 billion from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and EIB.
