Covid-19 roundup: Man­u­fac­tur­ers strug­gle to keep up with test de­mand; AGC inks deal for Pfiz­er's Omi­cron shot pDNA

In the spring of 2021, de­mand for Covid-19 at-home tests plum­met­ed, and Ab­bott Lab­o­ra­to­ries was forced to dis­card com­po­nents that were ap­proach­ing ex­pi­ra­tion date. Now, man­u­fac­tur­ers tell Time that de­mand is so high, the test mak­ers are strug­gling to keep up with de­mand.

iHealth re­ceived a $1.3 bil­lion fed­er­al con­tract for 250 mil­lion tests, and was forced to scale its goal up to 10 mil­lion tests a day last month, up from 1 mil­lion a day in No­vem­ber. It still is aim­ing to dou­ble pro­duc­tion by the end of this month, but is strug­gling to keep up.
