Covid-19 roundup: UK authorizes 6th vaccine with Valneva's OK; FDA delays BLA for Regeneron's halted mAb combo

The UK’s drug regulator on Thursday became the first in the world to approve Valneva’s Covid-19 vaccine, which becomes the sixth Covid-19 vaccine to be granted an MHRA authorization.

The French firm’s vaccine is also the first whole-virus inactivated Covid vaccine to gain regulatory approval in the UK, the MHRA said. Unlike the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, the production of this inactivated vaccine is similar to how the current flu and polio vaccines are made.
