Eu­rope holds off on a fourth Covid vac­cine shot for those un­der the age of 80

Eu­rope’s drug reg­u­la­tors and vac­cine ad­vis­ers on Wednes­day con­clud­ed that it is too ear­ly to con­sid­er us­ing a fourth dose of ei­ther Pfiz­er or Mod­er­na’s mR­NA Covid-19 vac­cine in the gen­er­al pop­u­la­tion.

How­ev­er, as the US signed off on a fourth shot (or sec­ond boost­er) for those over 50 years old last week, the EU agen­cies agreed that a fourth dose (or sec­ond boost­er) can be giv­en to adults 80 years of age and above af­ter re­view­ing da­ta on the high­er risk of se­vere Covid in this age group and the pro­tec­tion pro­vid­ed by a fourth dose.
