In wake of Lan­der res­ig­na­tion, Biden taps Fran­cis Collins, Alon­dra Nel­son to fill top sci­ence roles

Fran­cis Collins’ re­tire­ment didn’t last long.

Just weeks af­ter he of­fi­cial­ly stepped down as NIH di­rec­tor, Collins has been called out of his lab at the Na­tion­al Hu­man Genome Re­search In­sti­tute. Pres­i­dent Joe Biden has tapped him to per­form the du­ties of sci­ence ad­vi­sor and co-chair of the pres­i­dent’s Coun­cil of Ad­vi­sors on Sci­ence and Tech­nol­o­gy, or half of the role held by Er­ic Lan­der be­fore he re­signed amid a scan­dal that stemmed from ac­cu­sa­tions of bul­ly­ing.
