INC Research has deep roots sunk into North Carolina. And now it plans to shift its HQ from Raleigh to nearby Morrisville as it looks to pick up millions of dollars in state incentives aimed at keeping the big CRO in the state.
In reaching for some $10 million in state and local cash, INC is promising to invest $38 million in the state, adding 550 jobs over the next 5 years.
According to The News & Observer, INC already has 1,375 staffers in the state, part of a big CRO industry that employs some 63,000 in 125 companies involved in contract drug development
That Raleigh/Morrisville rivalry attracted plenty of local attention, but government officials were keeping the focus on keeping INC from jumping to some other state closer to the biotech boom. Morrisville Mayor Mark Stohlman told the newspaper:
“I would look at it more that we kept them in Wake County, and I think Raleigh and Morrisville should both appreciate that. They could have gone anywhere in the country – to Silicon Valley, Cambridge (Mass.). They could have gone a lot of places, but they appreciate what they have here.”
