New York manufacturing supervisor gets 1-year sentence for stealing drugs for horse doping scheme

A Long Island man who worked at a drug manufacturing site has been sentenced to a year in prison after he was found guilty of stealing medical supplies and selling them to horse trainers and veterinarians at tracks around the state, including Belmont Park.

Gregory Settino, 60, of Bethpage, NY, was also ordered to pay $847,093 in restitution by the Judge Joanna Seybert.

“Today’s sentence is the finish line of Gregory Settino’s criminal conduct. He stole thousands of bottles of drugs, ignored safe handling practices, and allowed them to be given to horses at New York racetracks without regard for the health of the animals – only focusing on his own personal gain,” US attorney Breon Peace said in a statement. “Those who jeopardize drug safety and risk the health of others will be held accountable and face serious consequences.”
