Sen­a­tor asks FTC to in­ves­ti­gate Amerisource­Ber­gen over abor­tion pill dis­tri­b­u­tion plans

Sen. Tam­my Duck­worth (D-IL) has asked the Fed­er­al Trade Com­mis­sion to in­ves­ti­gate Amerisource­Ber­gen af­ter re­ports that the com­pa­ny might not dis­trib­ute mifepri­s­tone to re­tail phar­ma­cies in some states while still sell­ing them to health­care providers, Politi­co re­port­ed on Mon­day.

In her let­ter to the FTC, first pub­lished by Politi­co, Duck­worth said the com­pa­ny could be us­ing “its mo­nop­o­lis­tic pow­er” by re­fus­ing to sell the drug to cer­ti­fied phar­ma­cies. Amerisource­Ber­gen is the sole whole­sale dis­trib­u­tor of the brand name ver­sion of the drug mifepri­s­tone, called Mifeprex, to re­tail phar­ma­cies.
