Senators grill Califf over proposed FDA budget as commissioner lays out 2023 priorities

FDA commissioner Robert Califf faced a litany of questions from senators Thursday morning over several aspects of President Biden’s 2023 budget for the FDA, as the White House looks to increase the budget by 34% to $8.4 billion.

The hearing brought Califf, who returned to the hot seat at the FDA in February, in front of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies on Thursday. He stressed the importance of technology and scientific infrastructure to carry out its duties.
