In victory for microbiome company, FDA approves pills purified from poop
Seres Therapeutics has officially taken the poop out of poop pills. On Wednesday, the Cambridge-based biotech company scored an FDA approval for its first drug, which is based on bacterial spores purified from human stool.
The therapy will be marketed under the brand name Vowst. It’s designed to help restore healthy gut microbes in patients recovering from repeating infections of Clostridioides difficile, commonly called C. diff, which can cause colitis, diarrhea, and sometimes death.
