Space, the fi­nal fron­tier for drug man­u­fac­tur­ing?

Tra­di­tion­al drug man­u­fac­tur­ing con­jures up im­ages of a fac­to­ry in an in­dus­tri­al area with work­ers geared up in pro­tec­tive equip­ment. But one com­pa­ny is reach­ing for the stars, quite lit­er­al­ly, by launch­ing drug man­u­fac­tur­ing in­to low Earth or­bit.

Red­wire Cor­po­ra­tion, a Flori­da-based com­pa­ny that man­u­fac­tures space in­fra­struc­ture such as sen­sors, so­lar pow­er tech and 3D print­ing, is de­vel­op­ing a space tech­nol­o­gy for drug man­u­fac­tur­ing and al­ready has a ma­jor phar­ma com­pa­ny in­volved on the project.
