Updated: Three big Congressional hearings next week to set the tenor on accelerated approvals, pandemics, drug prices, and ARPA-H

Two Senate committees and a House subcommittee will hold hearings next week taking on Covid-19, future pandemics, the need to lower drug prices in Medicare, and a new health research investor to be known as ARPA-H.

The committees will all seek to advance key priorities as drug pricing legislation that included Medicare negotiations stalled, and then flat-lined when Sen. Joe Manchin dropped his support for a wider bill. Meanwhile, Covid-19 funds were pulled from next year’s government funding bill, which means Tuesday’s hearing on a bipartisan Covid-19 bill to strengthen the US public health and medical preparedness and response systems may turn partisan.
