Two top ex­ecs in Sanofi's R&D group are hit­ting the ex­it in a shake­up as Frank Nes­tle moves up to CSO

Roger Perl­mut­ter isn’t the on­ly Big Phar­ma R&D ex­it be­ing an­nounced to­day.

Sanofi says that Gary Nabel, named chief sci­en­tif­ic of­fi­cer 8 years ago when he was re­cruit­ed from a top post at the NIH, is hit­ting the ex­it. For­mer R&D pres­i­dent Elias Zer­houni, who knew Nabel well as ex-head of the NIH, re­cruit­ed him to Sanofi in 2012. Zer­houni re­tired in 2018.

In ad­di­tion, Yong-Jun Liu, the cur­rent head of re­search at Sanofi, is “re­turn­ing to Chi­na to be clos­er to his fam­i­ly,” ac­cord­ing to a spokesper­son.
