With Amy Aber­nethy out, Vid De­sai takes over as FDA’s act­ing CIO

The FDA’s top tech gu­ru Amy Aber­nethy of­fi­cial­ly left the FDA last Fri­day, and one of her two main roles as chief in­for­ma­tion of­fi­cer has been hand­ed over in an act­ing ca­pac­i­ty to Vid De­sai, FDA’s cur­rent chief tech­nol­o­gy of­fi­cer.

De­sai, who be­gan his tenure at the FDA in Au­gust 2019, praised the work of Aber­nethy on LinkedIn over the week­end, say­ing she “made im­pres­sive progress” on the agency’s jour­ney to­ward mod­ern­iz­ing its tech­nol­o­gy and da­ta sys­tems, “and got us to a very sol­id base camp.”
