WuXi Biologics earns local nod for expansion to growing MA manufacturing site

WuXi Biologics’ Massachusetts manufacturing site isn’t even up and running yet, and it’s already getting an upgrade.

An expansion of the WuXi plant at The Reactory biomanufacturing park five miles northeast of downtown Worcester was approved by the city’s planning board last week. The site is the Chinese company’s first in the US and will now employ 150 people, once it’s up and running.

The original plans included a two-story, 107,000 square-foot building with a mezzanine. That has now been upgraded to four stories, with an additional 5,000 square feet added to its 198,000 square-foot plan. In an Aug. 18 meeting, the Worcester Business Development Corporation’s Roberta Bryan said it was eager to see construction get started, and welcome the new industry to the city.
