Patients, advocacy groups launch fight against Trikafta patents in four countries
Gayle Pledger’s daughter has cystic fibrosis, a painful and debilitating genetic disease that sent her to the hospital every three months for five years.
That is, until she started taking Vertex’s Trikafta. Since Pledger’s daughter started taking the drug, she hasn’t been hospitalized once.
Pledger, other families and advocacy groups have since launched a global effort to increase access to Trikafta, and on Tuesday, the groups announced that they’ve petitioned four governments to allow generic versions of the drug.
