Roche doubles down on organoids, human model systems with new research institute
In a move to speed up drug discovery and development, Roche has launched a new research group it’s naming the Institute of Human Biology — whose mission is to create “replicas” of human tissues and organs that can then be broadly applied across the company.
Located in Roche’s headquarters of Basel, Switzerland, the institute aims to grow to 250 scientists and bioengineers over the next four years, while building out a network of academic collaborators around the world. It currently houses 80 people, a Roche spokesperson said.
