Aera­mi Ther­a­peu­tics CEO Lisa Yañez pass­es away, chair to lead heart dis­ease biotech

Aera­mi Ther­a­peu­tics, which is work­ing on an in­haled ther­a­py for hy­per­ten­sion, said Fri­day morn­ing its CEO Lisa Yañez passed away ear­li­er this week.

Yañez, 50, and Vaughn Av­ery Book­er, 40, re­port­ed­ly died in a car crash in Chapel Hill, NC, ac­cord­ing to a lo­cal me­dia out­let. The cause of the crash was un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion, an NBC af­fil­i­ate re­port­ed.

“The en­tire Aera­mi com­mu­ni­ty mourns the loss of Lisa and ex­tends our deep­est sym­pa­thies to her fam­i­ly dur­ing this dif­fi­cult time,” the Durham, NC-based biotech said in a press re­lease. “Lisa pos­sessed lim­it­less em­pa­thy, in­tel­lect, brav­ery and com­pas­sion.”
