As new mon­key­pox cas­es spike glob­al­ly, Lab­corp rolls out first na­tion­al lab test

With new cas­es of mon­key­pox spik­ing around the world, of­fi­cials at the WHO are plan­ning to re­con­vene in the com­ing days to see what coun­ter­mea­sures may be need­ed. And Lab­corp re­ports to­day that it is ramp­ing up the first mon­key­pox test of­fer­ing from a na­tion­al lab.

The CDC is track­ing close to 7,000 world­wide cas­es, with clus­ters in sev­er­al Eu­ro­pean coun­tries. That’s up from 5,800 on Fri­day. And with lim­it­ed test­ing, a num­ber of ex­perts say it’s like­ly that the cas­es are be­ing un­der­count­ed.
