AstraZeneca pulls patient data exposed on code sharing site GitHub

AstraZeneca is still trying to figure out how some of its confidential patient data ended up on GitHub, a software developer’s platform, but the UK-based company confirmed to Endpoints News that the data have now been taken down.

“Due to an user error, some data records were temporarily available on a developer platform. We stopped access to this data immediately after we have been informed. We are investigating the root cause as well as assessing our regulatory obligations,” an AstraZeneca spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “The protection of personal data is extremely important to us and we strive for the highest standards and compliance with all applicable rules and laws.”
