Biden ad­min­is­tra­tion tar­gets GPOs, whole­salers in re­quest for in­for­ma­tion on gener­ic short­ages

The Fed­er­al Trade Com­mis­sion and De­part­ment of Health and Hu­man Ser­vices are band­ing to­geth­er to glean in­for­ma­tion on how two types of phar­ma mid­dle­men — group pur­chas­ing or­ga­ni­za­tions and drug whole­salers — could be con­tribut­ing to on­go­ing gener­ic drug short­ages.

In a joint re­quest for in­for­ma­tion pub­lished Wednes­day, the two agen­cies ex­pressed skep­ti­cism to­ward the prac­tices of group pur­chas­ing or­ga­ni­za­tions (GPOs) and drug whole­salers, rais­ing flags over how these en­ti­ties could be af­fect­ing drug pric­ing and avail­abil­i­ty.
