BioNTech to expand presence in Israel with manufacturing and research site

mRNA player BioNTech has announced plans to set up a new lab and manufacturing space in Israel, as it forms a partnership with the Weizmann Institute of Science.

The biotech is establishing an “mRNA Excellence Center” at Weizmann Science Park in Ness Ziona, where it’ll work with Weizmann Institute scientists in a range of diseases, from cancer to infectious to neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, BioNTech said on Wednesday that it will build an mRNA manufacturing facility based on its BioNTainers, which are container-sized modular units equipped to pump out mRNA-based vaccines and therapies.
