As India’s second wave of Covid-19 infections continues to trend downward and scientists warn of a third wave of the pandemic that could lead to between 200,000 and 500,000 new cases a day, the Serum Institute of India (SII) has announced the first batch of Novavax’s vaccine has been produced, CEO Adar Poonawalla tweeted.

The shot could be cleared for use in India by regulators between July and September, New Delhi TV reported. That jab would mark the fifth one approved for use in India, as the country struggles with a vaccination rollout, following a massive second wave of infections.
