Do pa­tients and physi­cians weigh drug risks dif­fer­ent­ly? FDA re­searchers plan to find out

Be­fore start­ing a new pre­scrip­tion drug, pa­tients and their doc­tors have a whole slate of ques­tions to con­sid­er, in­clud­ing how risks weigh against cer­tain ben­e­fits like ef­fi­ca­cy or con­ve­nience. But do pa­tients view the trade­offs dif­fer­ent­ly than physi­cians?

That’s what the FDA’s Of­fice of Pre­scrip­tion Drug Pro­mo­tion (OPDP) wants to find out with its lat­est study, which will be of­fi­cial­ly an­nounced ear­ly next week.
