DOJ plans to take mifepri­s­tone chal­lenge to the Supreme Court

The US De­part­ment of Jus­tice is head­ing to the Supreme Court with a chal­lenge to the lat­est court-im­posed re­stric­tions around the abor­tion drug mifepri­s­tone.

The de­part­ment an­nounced late Wednes­day that it “strong­ly dis­agrees” with a Fifth Cir­cuit court’s de­ci­sion that would re­strict mifepri­s­tone’s use to con­di­tions that ex­ist­ed in 2016 be­fore the FDA loos­ened some of its reg­u­la­tions. The de­ci­sion runs counter to la­bel changes, in­clud­ing dose and reg­i­men up­dates, for­mer FDA act­ing com­mis­sion­er Janet Wood­cock wrote in April.
