FDA clears 3rd shot of mRNA Covid-19 vaccines for the immunocompromised
Boosters are here — for a “small, vulnerable group.”
The FDA has authorized the administration of a third Covid-19 vaccine dose to immunocompromised individuals who have already received two mRNA shots, citing their need for extra protection from the coronavirus. The emergency use authorizations for both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna will be amended accordingly.
Regulators emphasized that the action does not apply to people who are not immunocompromised, and that other fully vaccinated individuals do not need an additional dose right now.
