Gavi reports 'rebound' year for childhood vaccinations
Following a historic backslide in routine childhood vaccinations amid the pandemic, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, said preliminary data suggest 2022 was a “year of rebound.”
The global health partnership reported roughly 80% coverage for a third dose of the diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-containing vaccine (DTP3) in 57 of the world’s lowest-income countries, according to early data. DTP3 immunization is a marker used to assess childhood vaccination coverage. That’s an increase of three percentage points, following a drop of five percentage points during the pandemic, according to Gavi.
