Gilead commits millions more for HIV health equity efforts in southern cities
The Covid-19 pandemic fanned the flames of health disparities across the US — but especially in the South, which was already suffering from higher rates of chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity.
That’s true for the HIV epidemic as well. Even before the pandemic, southern states accounted for 51% of new HIV diagnoses, according to CDC data, even though only 38% of the US population lives there.
