HHS se­lects in­tranasal vac­cine can­di­dates for Project NextGen, doles out $500M in funds

HHS on Fri­day an­nounced its se­lec­tions for the next-gen­er­a­tion of Covid-19 vac­cine can­di­dates to re­ceive $500 mil­lion in fund­ing as part of the gov­ern­ment’s Project NextGen.

First an­nounced in May as a fol­low-up to Op­er­a­tion Warp Speed, Project NextGen has a $5 bil­lion bud­get to cre­ate next-gen­er­a­tion Covid-19 vac­cines and treat­ments. The $500 mil­lion in­vest­ment an­nounced Fri­day builds on the $1.4 bil­lion in­vest­ment of­fi­cials an­nounced in Au­gust, which in­clud­ed $326 mil­lion to Re­gen­eron to de­vel­op a new Covid-19 mon­o­clon­al an­ti­body treat­ment.
