House com­mit­tee holds hear­ing to iden­ti­fy root caus­es of re­cent drug short­ages

A law­mak­er de­scribed the eco­nom­ics of gener­ic drug man­u­fac­tur­ing as “un­ap­peal­ing” to man­u­fac­tur­ers and said that may be one rea­son for the drug short­age cri­sis in the US dur­ing a House hear­ing on Thurs­day.

Drug short­ages in­creased by al­most 30% be­tween 2021 and 2022, with the ASHP record­ing 247 ac­tive short­ages, ac­cord­ing to Chair­man Rep. Mor­gan Grif­fith’s (R-VA) re­marks dur­ing the En­er­gy and Com­merce Com­mit­tee’s Over­sight and In­ves­ti­ga­tions Sub­com­mit­tee hear­ing.
