Join­ing con­gres­sion­al skep­ti­cism of Chi­na's role in biotech, Biden ex­ec­u­tive or­der tar­gets da­ta pri­va­cy is­sues

Pres­i­dent Joe Biden yes­ter­day af­ter­noon re­leased a new ex­ec­u­tive or­der to stop “coun­tries of con­cern,” like Chi­na, and com­pa­nies that op­er­ate along­side for­eign gov­ern­ments, from col­lect­ing bulk sen­si­tive per­son­al da­ta, in­clud­ing health and ge­nom­ic da­ta.

The ex­ec­u­tive or­der par­al­lels bi­par­ti­san ef­forts in the House and Sen­ate to block some Chi­nese and oth­er for­eign com­pa­nies from win­ning fed­er­al grants, con­tracts and awards that might give them ac­cess to Amer­i­cans’ sen­si­tive health da­ta.
