Lab­corp ex­pands Alzheimer’s blood tests for doc­tors and drug­mak­ers

A sim­ple blood test that pre­dicts whether a per­son is like­ly to have Alzheimer’s dis­ease is now avail­able to doc­tors and drug­mak­ers.

Lab­corp, one of the na­tion’s biggest clin­i­cal test­ing com­pa­nies, an­nounced Wednes­day that it launched a new blood test to de­tect the brain pro­tein called tau. The pro­tein typ­i­cal­ly ac­cu­mu­lates af­ter the buildup of amy­loid plaques that are a hall­mark of the dis­ease.
