Col­lege Sta­tion, TX is known best for Ag­gies foot­ball. It’s slow­ly, but sure­ly, mak­ing a name for it­self in the world of biotech man­u­fac­tur­ing as well, and fur­ther ce­ment­ed that change this week when Mat­i­ca Biotech­nol­o­gy an­nounced that its newest cell and gene ther­a­py fa­cil­i­ty is open for busi­ness.

The CD­MO opened a 45,000-square-foot site good for the pro­duc­tion of vi­ral vec­tors and cell-based ther­a­pies Tues­day. The site will be used to keep up with the ac­cel­er­at­ed clin­i­cal de­vel­op­ment time­lines, com­plex­i­ties that come with pro­duc­tion and high de­mand. It’s al­ready land­ed two part­ner­ships: one with Sar­to­rius to de­vel­op vi­ral vec­tors for large-scale pro­duc­tion, and an­oth­er with its neigh­bor, Texas A&M Uni­ver­si­ty, and its Cen­ter for In­no­va­tion to speed up R&D and com­mer­cial man­u­fac­tur­ing.
