Merck triumphs in $1.4B cyberattack appeals case
A New Jersey appellate court ruled in favor of Merck last week in a long-running court battle over $1.4 billion in alleged losses from a malware attack.
Merck fell victim to a global cyberattack caused by malware NotPetya in 2017, alongside Danish shipping company Maersk, American food company Mondelez, French construction giant Saint-Gobain and others. Ransomware is a type of malware that encrypts files on a device, and attackers then demand a ransom to recover.
