Passage of FDA Modernization Act 2.0 clears the way to reduce animal testing

While the future of drug development likely won’t be completely animal-free, thanks to the passage of the FDA Modernization Act 2.0, there may be less use of animals in situations where they aren’t necessary.

The bill, which was added to the 2023 spending package that President Joe Biden signed into law last week, doesn’t ban animal testing outright, but it allows drug developers to use alternative methods to investigate the safety and effectiveness of a new drug.
