Powerful pack of senators pushes DOJ for a criminal probe of Sacklers' role in opioid epidemic

In the ongoing saga of events revolving around Purdue Pharma, OxyContin and the Sackler family, there were quite a few people who thought that the Sackler family should be held more accountable. And now, a powerful group of senators is pushing for a criminal investigation of the Sackler’s role.

In a letter dated yesterday addressed to US attorney general Merrick Garland, a group of 7 Democrat senators — including Richard Blumenthal, Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren — wrote that Purdue’s settlement and pleading guilty to three felonies related to OxyContin sales and marketing are “little solace for the millions who lost their lives and livelihoods at the hands of Purdue and the individuals at its helm—the Sackler family.”
