Reckitt’s well-known over-the-counter cough and cold rem­e­dy Mucinex is known for its green, slimy spokeschar­ac­ter, Mr. Mu­cus. How­ev­er, Mucinex has a se­ri­ous side as well — its ac­tive in­gre­di­ent, guaife­n­esin, is pro­fes­sion­al­ly in­di­cat­ed for thin­ning and loos­en­ing mu­cus in peo­ple with chron­ic bron­chi­tis, which is one of the two most com­mon con­di­tions of chron­ic ob­struc­tive pul­monary dis­ease (COPD).
