Roche's Chugai to set up new $1B+ lab in Yokohama, consolidating R&D
Japan’s Chugai, a Roche company, is consolidating its research heft in an environmental-friendly facility in Yokohama, a city south of Tokyo, which will cost more than $1 billion to construct.
Construction of the 35,210-meter square lab, called the Chugai Life Science Park Yokohama, will cost 127.3 billion Japanese Yen (about $1.15 billion) and begin this August. Two of the company’s other facilities — Fuji Gotemba Research Laboratories and Kamakura Research Laboratories that focus on antibody technology and drug discovery — will be closed and their operations will be infused into the new lab.
