Sanofi’s R&D chief John Reed makes sur­prise ex­it

John Reed is leav­ing his perch at Sanofi as glob­al head of R&D, in a sur­prise move that trig­gers an im­me­di­ate search for his suc­ces­sor.

Sanofi said he will “pur­sue a new op­por­tu­ni­ty” out­side the com­pa­ny. Di­et­mar Berg­er, chief med­ical of­fi­cer and glob­al head of de­vel­op­ment, will take charge in the in­ter­im while the French phar­ma gi­ant looks both in­ter­nal­ly and ex­ter­nal­ly for a new R&D chief.
