Mike Macalu­so will be tak­ing a one-year med­ical leave of ab­sence from his du­ties as chair­man and CEO of En­gle­wood, CO-based Am­pio Phar­ma­ceu­ti­cals af­ter dis­clos­ing last month that he is un­der­go­ing treat­ment. Michael Mar­ti­no took a seat at the board of di­rec­tors at the time of that Oc­to­ber an­nounce­ment, and the com­pa­ny will now be en­trust­ed to him as in­ter­im chair­man and CEO while Macalu­so is away. Am­pio al­so re­vealed a month ago that COO Hol­li Cherev­ka was el­e­vat­ed to pres­i­dent and COO, while Howard Levy — a CSL Behring and No­vo Nordisk vet who re­tired from Cat­a­lyst Bio­sciences this sum­mer — was named CMO. Dicer­na chair­man Kevin Buchi has al­so been added to Am­pio’s board of di­rec­tors.
