Ther­mo Fish­er plans to lay off 97 em­ploy­ees, close fa­cil­i­ty in Al­aba­ma

Ther­mo Fish­er Sci­en­tif­ic is lay­ing off 97 em­ploy­ees in Al­aba­ma in Jan­u­ary, adding to mul­ti­ple rounds of lay­offs the com­pa­ny has made across the coun­try this year.

The lay­offs will be­gin Jan. 2 when the com­pa­ny clos­es its fa­cil­i­ty in Auburn, AL, ac­cord­ing to an Al­aba­ma WARN no­tice.

Ther­mo Fish­er an­nounced in Au­gust that it planned to lay off 205 em­ploy­ees at its site in Alachua, FL. The first round of lay­offs hap­pened in Oc­to­ber, with the sec­ond in March. At the time, Ther­mo told Flori­da that it will move its vi­ral vec­tor man­u­fac­tur­ing net­work in­to one lo­ca­tion in Plainville, MA, while its sci­ence and tech­nol­o­gy work will re­main in Alachua.
