UK-based AbbVie sales rep raises concerns about 'strategic loitering' outside hospitals during the pandemic

The UK’s Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA) recently dug into AbbVie’s sales practices after a UK-based rep complained that sales teams were allegedly incentivized to have five face-to-face calls with health professionals per week at a time during the pandemic when hospitals were not seeing many patients face to face.

While AbbVie maintained that the rep’s reason for visiting the hospital was to nab an appointment with a health professional, the PMCPA panel raised concerns about the representative’s reference to “strategic loitering” outside the hospital.
