UMass med­ical school’s man­u­fac­tur­ing busi­ness trims 36 po­si­tions

Mass­Bi­o­log­ics has no­ti­fied 36 em­ploy­ees that their roles will be cut ef­fec­tive Feb. 3 to “right-size” its op­er­a­tions, a spokesper­son con­firmed to End­points News, adding that there will be around 80 em­ploy­ees left af­ter the lay­offs.

“Mass­Bi­o­log­ics is not im­mune from mar­ket-re­lat­ed fac­tors im­pact­ing so many biotech and life sci­ences com­pa­nies at this time,” the spokesper­son not­ed, adding that such chal­lenges in­clude “high over­head, un­der­uti­lized bio­man­u­fac­tur­ing ca­pac­i­ty and, in this case, steadi­ly wan­ing de­mand for Td [tetanus and diph­the­ria tox­oids ad­sorbed] vac­cine.”
