Brain­Storm to lay off work­ers; Lil­ly inks a sub­cu­ta­neous deal

Brain­Storm’s lay­offs: Brain­Storm Cell Ther­a­peu­tics said Tues­day it’s let­ting go of 30% of its staffers as it pre­pares to go back to the tri­al de­sign draw­ing board af­ter pulling the BLA for its ALS drug. The “strate­gic re­align­ment” aims to pro­vide more re­sources for a new clin­i­cal tri­al. As of June 30, Brain­Storm em­ployed 44 peo­ple, ac­cord­ing to SEC fil­ings. Brain­Storm re­cent­ly filed its ap­pli­ca­tion for the ALS drug “over protest” de­spite re­ceiv­ing a re­fusal-to-file let­ter from the FDA. The process in­clud­ed an ad­vi­so­ry com­mit­tee hear­ing, where pan­elists vot­ed 17-1 that the drug, called NurOwn, did not demon­strate sub­stan­tial ev­i­dence of ef­fec­tive­ness in a pre­vi­ous study. — Max Gel­man
