Covid-19 roundup: FDA gives OK to use ex­tra dos­es in Pfiz­er/BioN­Tech vac­cine vials; Sinophar­m's Pe­ru tri­al to re­sume

While Pfiz­er and the US gov­ern­ment are still ne­go­ti­at­ing for more dos­es of its BioN­Tech-part­nered mR­NA vac­cine, the FDA has cleared the way for phar­ma­cists to squeeze more dos­es out of the cur­rent sup­ply.

Phar­ma­cists dis­cov­ered the ex­tra dos­es soon af­ter the vac­ci­na­tion cam­paign be­gan on Tues­day fol­low­ing an emer­gency use au­tho­riza­tion over the week­end. While the EUA la­bel states that each vial con­tains 5 dos­es of the vac­cine — each com­ing at 0.3 mL and re­quir­ing di­lu­tion — they re­al­ized that there’s of­ten enough left for an­oth­er full dose, or even two.
